The Tasmanian Department of Justice provides services that maintain and promote rights and responsibilities, resolve disputes, and contribute to the aim of a safer and more inclusive society to benefit the Tasmanian community as a whole.
The Department also supports the statutory offices of the Solicitor-General, Public Guardian and the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner. Each of these areas is separately accountable to Parliament. The staff of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Health Compliants Commissioner are also employed by the Department of Justice, although these Offices are separate Agencies within the State Budget.
